On July 24, 2015, the band held a very successful fundraiser at the Chippewa Valley Bank.  The folks at the bank were very generous donating all of the washing supplies and allowing us to use their parking lot.  We had a great group of students working hard and having fun from 9:00AM - 3:00 PM. A great big THANK YOU to all who showed up to help out!

Congratulations for a Fantastic Year of Music!!!

With a super fun and exciting spring concert behind us now, I would like to congratulate all of our band students on much success throughout the school year.

We do have some great things happening now before the end of the year that I want to make everyone aware of.

First Commencement Ceremony will be held May 23, 2015 at 1:00 PM.  HS and JR High band students will be given the honor to perform the ceremonial music for this exciting time.

I ask students to be in the band room ready to play at 12:30 PM so we can warm up and tune prior to entering the gymnasium.   Dress for the commencement ceremony is the same as a regular school year concert.  Nice pants or dresses, no tennis shoes or jeans and t-shirts.  Thanks.

The Memorial Day Parade, will begin at 10:30 AM from the Memorial Building in Hurley.  Our JR and SR High marching band will be participating.  Please have students at the school at 9:15 AM to get dressed in their uniforms and get their instruments ready.  The bus will leave the school at 9:45 AM to depart for the Memorial building.  If the weather is hot we will only be wearing uniform pants along with plain black t-shirts.  Please be sure your child has a plain black shirt, black socks and black shoes.  There are some black shoes of various sizes in the band room.  Have your child come to the band room to try some on if you need them.

Summary of Times and Events:

May 23 Commencement:  Report 12:30 PM
May 25 Memorial Day Parade:  Report 9:15 AM in the band room.

We are so very excited to share our music with you at the spring concert.  The students have been working on their pieces and are proud to play for you.  The concert will be held this Thursday, April 30 at 7:00 PM.  Your child should be in the band room ready to play at 6:30 PM.

Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the concert.  We ask students to dress in nice clothes.  Sweat pants, jeans and t-shirts are not appropriate.  Tennis shoes should be avoided as well, if possible.  For young ladies, nice dresses, or slacks and appropriate top are suitable.  It is suggested for ladies who choose to wear dresses or skirts that the the skirt length comes below the knee.  Kakis or nice slacks, with a golf shirt or shirt and tie are appropriate for the boys.

The order for the concert will be as follows:

5th Grade Band - 3 pieces
Clarinet Choir
6th Grade Band - 3 pieces
Flute solo
Saxophone solo
6-8 Grade Band - 2 pieces from festival
Oboe solo

Everyone has worked very hard to prepare the music.  It is highly recommended for all students to remain at the concert to watch their fellow band friends.

Thank you parents and guardians, for supporting your child in learning and growing in music.  Music is an important part of everyone’s education. With your encouragement, students are capable of many amazing, musical and academic accomplishments.  Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

With the beginning of basketball season approaching fast please check the schedule for updates on pep band performances.

Concert band is a time when our students have the chance to experience a great variety of arrangements and put their best foot forward!  We have been reading a variety of winter program selections which highlight our groups unique talents.  These selections are also aligned with current standards of music education in the state of Wisconsin.

It's an exciting time when students get their first instrument.  We had a well attended meeting Tuesday night.  If you are in need of renting an instrument, please have your child pick up the information in the band room.  The fifth graders at the Hurley School District are every enthusiastic about band right now.  Most of them have their instruments and those who do not will have them soon.  Beginning band books will arrive next week.

There will be a change to the sectionals schedule for the next two weeks.  The schedule is as follows.

Monday - Clarinets and High Brass
Tuesday - Flutes
Wednesday - Saxophones and Low Brass
Thrusday - All woodwinds
Friday - All Brass

Beginning October 6, we will have full band rehearsal.  We will hold sectional rehearsals occasionally throughout the school year.  Notes will be sent home when those changes happen.  Thank you parents for supporting your child's interest in band.
