What a Season!

Football season has come to a close and it was a great season for the Marching/Pep Band.  Every performance was fantastic, wonderful music played extremely well.  Thank you band for your dedication and constant commitment!

With the beginning of basketball season approaching fast please check the schedule for updates on pep band performances.

Concert band is a time when our students have the chance to experience a great variety of arrangements and put their best foot forward!  We have been reading a variety of winter program selections which highlight our groups unique talents.  These selections are also aligned with current standards of music education in the state of Wisconsin.

The following is a list of important exciting upcoming events:

Veterans Day Program: November 11, 2014 at Hurley K12 School Gymnasium 10:00 AM

Gogebic Range Honor Band with conductor Dr. Pamela Bustos from UW Superior.  November 21, 2014

The Gogebic Range Honor Band is organized by local band directors.  Directors select students from the high school bands in our area schools. Students will receive their music in advance.   Rehearsals will take place all day Nov. 21, with a concert to follow that evening at 7:00 at the Historic Ironwood Theatre.

Winter Concert: December 4, 2014 7:00 PM Hurley K12 School Auditorium

Claudette's Christmas Program: December 4-7 Historic Ironwood Theatre

Students from the HS Marching Band will perform at the Dec. 6 show, more details to come.

It's an exciting time when students get their first instrument.  We had a well attended meeting Tuesday night.  If you are in need of renting an instrument, please have your child pick up the information in the band room.  The fifth graders at the Hurley School District are every enthusiastic about band right now.  Most of them have their instruments and those who do not will have them soon.  Beginning band books will arrive next week.

There will be a change to the sectionals schedule for the next two weeks.  The schedule is as follows.

Monday - Clarinets and High Brass
Tuesday - Flutes
Wednesday - Saxophones and Low Brass
Thrusday - All woodwinds
Friday - All Brass

Beginning October 6, we will have full band rehearsal.  We will hold sectional rehearsals occasionally throughout the school year.  Notes will be sent home when those changes happen.  Thank you parents for supporting your child's interest in band.

Super Job at the parade in Ontonagon!  Photos coming soon!

Friday, August 29, 2014

The Band is really looking and sounding super after these last few days of practice.  Because of the many activities scheduled for today, Friday, Aug. 29, we will NOT have practice.  As a reminder, and I encourage you to refer to the letter sent a few weeks ago and earlier posts, we need to be at the school at 10:00 AM on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Other important information:
Bring a swim suit and towel.
Remember to Hydrate before the parade.
We will return between 5:30 and 6:00 PM.
Contact me with any questions.  Thanks.

Wow, we have come a long way in just a few short rehearsals!  The band is really sounding great!  The percussion section is beginning to groove!

A couple of reminders for the rest of the week:
1.  Please wear some type of athletic shoe.  It's very difficult to march in flip flops.  Also we will be         doing conditioning exercises - it's important to have the right shoes to avoid injury.

2.  Be sure to acquire all black shoes and socks for your uniform.  It would be best to find a tennis shoe or some kind of oxford style.  Dress flats are not good for marching.  We should be looking uniform even down to our shoes.

I have seen some inexpensive shoes at Wal-Mart and KMart that would  be appropriate.

It's been really fun so far.  Looking forward to the rest of this weeks marching camp.
